A week ago, on 21st September 2017, it was my great honour to speak to a gathering of Gartner’s clients at the IT Financial, Procurement & Asset Management Summit in London. Many organisations turn to Gartner when they need independent expertise and advice on the latest trends and their recommended suppliers, and so it was with a mixture of excitement and trepidation that I found myself standing in front of a room full of IT decision makers from Private and Public sector organisations from all around the UK and Europe.
Many of the attendees had come to hear me speak about one of our financial services customers and how they saved a monumental amount of money on their Oracle estate. Representatives from the company were in attendance and we would like to thank them for coming along to speak to other organisations about their journey and the benefits of using our service. Judging from the calibre and number of people attending the event, there are lots of organisations out there keen to get better value for money on their enterprise software support!
During the talk, we explained how we moved the software support from Oracle across to our team, which included the support for software running on almost 300 servers. The secret as always is in the planning; we worked closely with the customer to define a three-phase approach which meant moving the support for products and services across before the support from the manufacturer ended. This enabled our teams to create a comprehensive archive of all of the software that the organisation had paid for but which they had not stored in case they needed it.
I must say that I was greatly relieved to see so many people at the talk; it is always a worry when presenting that no-one turns up and you are ‘playing to an empty room’. It has happened to many celebrities and entertainers over the years, so is always there in the back of your mind that it could easily happen to you too.
The talk was a great success with many questions and follow-up sessions being booked.
